In his book, The Wealth of Nations was the first economic work and is like a guideline for how to regulate the economy. Even today, the government does not regulate our economy, it regulates itself. His idea of self interest is also still prevalent. In Canada and modern society, we still look out for our own self interest to benefit society. If we want to open a restaurant, we do so and that benefits us as an income but also provides others with food. Smith created the basis of the modern economy.","dateCreated":"1299854438","smartDate":"Mar 11, 2011","userCreated":{"username":"valericr010","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/valericr010","imageUrl":"https:\/\/ssl.wikicdn.com\/i\/user_none_lg.jpg"}}],"more":0}]},{"id":"35527326","dateCreated":"1299628002","smartDate":"Mar 8, 2011","userCreated":{"username":"david.taibi","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/david.taibi","imageUrl":"https:\/\/ssl.wikicdn.com\/i\/user_none_lg.jpg"},"monitored":false,"locked":false,"links":{"self":"https:\/\/hall-period1-world-history.wikispaces.com\/share\/view\/35527326"},"dateDigested":1532763705,"startDate":null,"sharedType":"discussion","title":"smith","description":"what was his main idea and what did "An Inquiry into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of Nations" show that helped to changed peoples views.","replyPages":[{"page":0,"digests":[{"id":"35528038","body":"Smith's main idea was the 'Invisible Hand', which basically states that the economy is self- regulating. He believed that without the goverment's intervention, the economy could run smoothly and successfully by itself. Also, he believed that if everybody looked out for their own self interest, it would benefit the rest of society. The example he uses is a butcher, who cuts meat to make a living for his family (his own self interest) but also provides meat for his customers (benefits society).
\n"An Inquiry" is basically where Smith outlines his ideas about the economy, like the Invisible Hand idea. It's supposed to be the foundation of modern economics. These ideas are new because before, most states had mercantilism where the government regulated the economy.
\nI haven't finished my page yet, so that's why the big idea isn't up there but if you want to know more about it, I should have it done pretty soon.","dateCreated":"1299628790","smartDate":"Mar 8, 2011","userCreated":{"username":"valericr010","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/valericr010","imageUrl":"https:\/\/ssl.wikicdn.com\/i\/user_none_lg.jpg"}}],"more":0}]}],"more":false},"comments":[]},"http":{"code":200,"status":"OK"},"redirectUrl":null,"javascript":null,"notices":{"warning":[],"error":[],"info":[],"success":[]}}
